SEA Games: Gilas 3×3 women fall to Indonesia in battle for bronze

The Philippines will not finish with a medal in the women’s 3×3 basketball competition of the 31st Southeast Asian Games Vietnam 2021 after losing to Indonesia, 16-10 in the battle for bronze on Saturday.

Indonesia, bannered by Dewa Ayu Made Sriartha, Adelaide Callista, Nathania Orville, and Kimberley Pierre-Louis, controlled the game from the start, going up, 5-1.

Halfway into the game, Gilas, represented by veterans Afril Bernardino, Janine Pontejos, Clare Castro, and Angelica Surada, pulled within 9-5, but it was the closest they could get as shots didn’t fall.

It will be an unfortunate exit for the Filipinas in the two-day competition, falling short of a podium finish expected from a country that has been dominant in the sport for decades.

Save for Surada, the trio also won the women’s 3×3 basketball gold back in the 2019 SEA Games, along with Jack Danielle Animam.

The 5-on-5 competitions will kick off starting on Monday, May 16.
