Filipino international prospect Kai Sotto may be part of the FIBA Olympic Qualifying Tournament, as well as future, Gilas Pilipinas roster according to the Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP).

During a press conference Tuesday, SBP President Al Panlilio touched on not fielding PBA players anymore for the OQT and FIBA Asia Cup qualifiers.

It also meant that Gilas will field its cadet line-up which includes the likes of Isaac Go, Dwight Ramos, Matt Nieto, and Juan Gomez de Liano.

Per an Inquirer report, Panlilio also reiterated that Sotto is still part of the Gilas potential pool for the OQT and other tournaments.

“He’s part of the list so we just have to talk to him and reach out to him again,” said SBP president Al Panlilio in a press conference Tuesday.

“We have not finalized our calendar yet but once we do, we will have to share with him what the plan is and depending on what he is doing, align that with what is ours,” he added.

Since leaving G-League Ignite, Sotto has not been part of any organized games or leagues.

The OQT in Serbia, where the Philippines is a part of, tips off on June 2021. The Asia Cup qualifiers 3rd window is also tentatively set for the same month this year.
