Australia dominates women’s field with double podium finish at Nuvali Open

Australia’s women’s beach volleyball teams left an indelible mark at the Rebisco AVC Beach Tour Second Nuvali Open, claiming both gold and bronze medals after a series of hard-fought matches at the world-class Nuvali Sand Courts in Laguna.

Stefanie Fejes and Jasmine Fleming topped the competition, claiming the gold medal in a thrilling final against New Zealand’s Shaunna Polley and Olivia MacDonald, 21-13, 13-21, 17-15. Despite a shaky second set, the Aussies held their composure and clinched victory in a dramatic third set.

“We were down quite a bit in the second so I thought it might be getting close but we managed to bring it back and get it done in two, which I’m very happy about,” Fleming shared after the match.

In the bronze medal match, Lizzie Alchin and Georgia Johnson added to Australia’s success, defeating Japan’s Asami Shiba and Reika Murakami in a gripping three-set match, 21-17, 17-21, 11-15.

The victories were not just about the podium but also a huge boost in preparation for the 2025 World Beach Volleyball Championships, which Australia will host in Adelaide from November 14 to 23.

“This win means a lot to us, especially with the World Championships coming up. We need to keep building on these performances,” said Fejes.

With these results, Australia’s women’s teams are looking stronger than ever, dominating the Asian tour ahead of their home World Championship event.
