Arellano’s Perfect V-League Run Faces a Fierce Perpetual Test

Arellano University puts its unbeaten V-League Collegiate Challenge record on the line Saturday, September 5, when it faces fellow NCAA squad University of Perpetual Help System DALTA at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.

The Lady Chiefs are chasing a fourth straight win, but they cannot afford to be complacent against the Lady Altas. The 3 p.m. showdown could provide another stern test for Arellano’s perfect start.

Lady Chiefs stay perfect

Arellano has been impressive so far, highlighted by a 25-21, 21-25, 31-33, 25-23, 15-13 reversal of the University of Santo Tomas. The Lady Chiefs also survived another five-set battle against the College of Saint Benilde a week ago.

Arellano escaped CSB, 19-25, 25-17, 34-32, 16-25, 15-7, to preserve its unbeaten record. Heart Villaflores and Cris Servidad have been the main reasons behind the Lady Chiefs’ perfect run.

Arellano’s ability to survive tight matches will again be tested against Perpetual. The Lady Chiefs will need another composed performance if they want to extend their winning streak to four games.

Lady Altas seek momentum

Perpetual is looking for its first winning streak of the tournament after splitting its first two matches. The Lady Altas were swept by Adamson University in their opener before bouncing back against San Beda University.

Perpetual defeated San Beda, 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-21, on Aug. 22. The Lady Altas will now try to build on that victory against an Arellano team that has yet to taste defeat.

Perpetual could also benefit from its postponed Aug. 30 showdown with UST. The break gave the Lady Altas additional time to recover before facing the unbeaten Lady Chiefs.

UST, meanwhile, hopes to rebound from its tough five-set loss to Arellano, with Angge Poyos leading the charge. The Tigresses will face the University of the East at 5 p.m.

UE opened its campaign with a five-set victory over CSB before falling to Adamson, 18-25, 23-25, 16-25, on Aug. 23. Rookie Janessa Buhay, a former Adamson high school standout, has been a major contributor for the Lady Warriors after two matches.
