Converge bounced back from a tough loss to Meralco in their season opener with a dominant 92-83 victory over Phoenix Super LPG in the PBA Philippine Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila on Sunday, April 6.
After narrowly losing to Meralco, 89-91, in their opening game, Converge came out determined to avoid another close defeat. They controlled the game from the second quarter onward, never looking back as they stretched their lead.
Alec Stockton led the charge with a game-high 18 points, contributing six rebounds, two blocks, and one assist in 30 minutes of play. He was instrumental in Converge’s success, especially in the second period, where the FiberXers outscored the Fuel Masters and built a solid halftime lead.

Justine Baltazar and Justin Arana provided the muscle inside, combining for 19 points and 26 rebounds. Their physical presence on both ends of the floor made it difficult for Phoenix to keep pace, as they struggled to contain Converge’s dominant frontcourt.
Off the bench, Schonny Winston and Bryan Santos added much-needed scoring support. Winston finished with 14 points and eight rebounds, while Santos scored 12 points, including three 3-pointers. Their efforts ensured that Converge maintained control even when Phoenix attempted to make a run.
Phoenix Unable to Respond
Phoenix Super LPG was led by Kai Ballungay and Tyler Tio, who combined for 28 points. However, their contributions weren’t enough to overcome Converge’s all-around performance. Despite a strong opening quarter, Phoenix was outscored in each of the following three periods, falling to their second consecutive loss of the tournament.
