Chooks-to-Go big boss Ronald Mascarinas bared that he is in talks with FIBA 3×3 to potentially hold Masters events in Manila and Cebu next year.
“We are committed to help FIBA develop 3×3. We have two confirmed FIBA Masters (slots),” Mascarinas said during the opening day of the Chooks-to-Go MPBL Invitatational Cup at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“In fact, gusto nga ng FIBA, mayroong Manila Masters, and they wanted us to organize a Cebu Masters,” he added.
Masters are part of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour calendar and is the organization’s top-flight series when it comes to 3×3, aside from the national team-based 3×3 competitions.
Various Masters events are held in host cities around the world throughout a FIBA 3×3 calendar season which usually starts in May, then culminates with a World Tour Final in a centralized venue.
Mascarinas also mentioned that having a local 3×3 tournament before the FIBA 3×3 Masters events will be ideal to help train Filipino athletes who shall be representing the country eventually.
Ideally, bringing 3×3 events back to malls around Metro Manila would be the dream set-up.
“We will only return to a bubble set-up if there are quarantine restrictions,” Mascarinas said.
The MPBL became the first pro league in the Philippines to welcome fans back into venues amidst the on-going public health situation.
Manila was part of the FIBA 3×3 World Tour calendar back in 2020 before the global pandemic postponed all sporting events worldwide.
