Gilas Pilipinas has confirmed its participation in the King Adbullah Cup in Jordan, a five-nation, six-team pocket tournament that the country will use as preparation for the FIBA Asia Cup in Indonesia next month.
The tournament will start on July 26 and shall feature the national basketball teams of the Philippines, Jordan (A and B), Tunisia, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
Gilas, Jordan, and Saudi Arabia are all preparing for the FIBA Asia Cup while African sides Tunisia and Egypt, meanwhile, are preparing for the 2021 FIBA AfroBasket.
The Philippine contingent had just arrived in the country recently and went straight to their training bubble in Calamba.
A 19-man strong pool led by those who participated in the Olympic Qualifiers, plus Thirdy Ravena, Rey Suerte, Matt Nieto, Allyn Bulanadi, Tzaddy Rangel, and Kenmark Carino, per Tiebreaker Times.
It is still unsure, however, whether Kai Sotto will be able to participate, as he has duties for NBL club Adelaide 36ers.
Gilas will take on Egypt on the 26th, Saudi Arabia on the 27th, Jordan’s Team A on the 28th, Tunisia on the 29th, and Jordan’s Team B on the 30th.
The top four squads will advance to the knockout semi-finals starting on July 31st.
