Calvin Abueva and CJ Perez spearhead the list of nominees for various special awards to be presented by the PBA on January 17 for its one-conference season.
Both players are nominated for 3 trophies: the Sportsmanship Award, Elite Five, and Best Player of the Conference.
The Phoenix Super LPG forward capped quite an impressive comeback, leading his Fuel Masters to the semi-finals and pushing the TNT KaTropa to the brink before falling out in 5 games.
He averaged a double-double of 13.7 PPG, 10.7 RPG, and 6.7 APG in his return.
Perez of Terrafirma Dyip was also remarkable for the conference, averaging a league-high 24.4 PPG to go along with 6.8 RPG and 4.3 APG.
Rounding out the candidates for BPC, the most prestigious award the league will be handing out for Season 45, are Ray Parks, Matthew Wright, Stanley Pringle, and RR Pogoy.
Meralco’s Reynel Hugnatan also made quite some history, being nominated for Most Improved Player at 42 years old.
Should he win over a cast of candidates which includes Prince Caperal and Justin Chua, Hugnatan will be the oldest winner of the distinction by a huge margin.
