“I’m heading home soon.”
These were the words uttered by Filipino NBA aspirant Kai Sotto in his instagram post Wednesday, confirming that he will play for Gilas Pilipinas in the FIBA Asia Cup 2021 Qualifiers February window next month.
“Excited ako sa binigay na opportunity para makapaglaro sa Gilas,” said Sotto, a member of the NBA G-League developmental team Ignite.
The Philippines is hosting the bubble in Clark next month, and will go up against Korea and Indonesia.
Among players in the pool are Raul Soyud, RR Pogoy, Troy Rosario, Juan Gomez de Liano, Kiefer Ravena, Isaac Go, Matt Nieto, and Mike Nieto.
Gilas is currently 3-0 in their group.
It will be the first time Sotto is joining a seniors national team, having represented the country in various youth competitions in the past.
His stint will be a good chance for the 7-2 Sotto toshow how far he has improved after training full-time in the United States to pursue his NBA dream.
It means he will also be delaying his G-League debut, having played a couple of scrimmages already for Team Ignite.
The G-League bubble season starts in February as well.
