The Singapore Tennis Open 2025 has kicked off with electrifying matches in the early rounds, setting the stage for a tournament full of surprises. Despite some stellar performances on the court, the tournament also experienced a notable setback with the withdrawal of Amanda Anisimova.

Anisimova Withdraws Due to Injury

Amanda Anisimova, a fan favorite, announced her withdrawal from the tournament, leaving fans disappointed. In a heartfelt statement, she shared:

“Hi everyone, I am really sad to have to withdraw from Singapore. I was really looking forward to playing in this beautiful city. I’ve picked up a small injury and unfortunately am not fit to play. I hope to be back soon!”

Her absence is undoubtedly a loss for the tournament, as Anisimova has been a consistent performer on the WTA Tour. Fans will be hoping for a speedy recovery and her return to the court in the near future.

Bucșa Stuns Raducanu in a Three-Set Epic

One of the most captivating matches so far featured Cristina Bucșa pulling off a stunning upset against seventh-seeded Emma Raducanu. Bucșa, unseeded in the tournament, reflected on her remarkable victory:

“It was such a tough match, but I just told myself to keep fighting and stay focused. Emma is an incredible player, so I’m really proud of how I played today.”

Raducanu, gracious in defeat, reflected on the narrow margins and her performance:

“I think it was really small margins in it. I honestly thought I played pretty well today. She just played unbelievable. And credit to her, she kept it up the whole match. So, yeah, I have to take a lot of positives this week coming here, you know, my own and with my coach and my mom, but yeah, I’m really proud of how I kind of fought.”

The marathon match ended 5-7, 7-5, 7-5, with Bucșa overcoming a set down to claim a well-deserved victory.

Gadecki Edges Past Uchijima

Olivia Gadecki showcased grit and determination in her win over eighth-seeded Moyuka Uchijima. After dominating the first set 6-1, Gadecki stumbled in the second, losing a tense tiebreak 6-7(1). However, she regrouped in the third to close out the match 6-2, securing her place in the next round.

Kimberly Birrell Overpowers Kudermetova

Kimberly Birrell delivered one of the cleanest performances of the tournament so far, defeating fifth seed Polina Kudermetova in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. Birrell’s sharp baseline game and consistent shot-making proved too much for Kudermetova, signaling her as a player to watch in the upcoming rounds.

Baptiste and Watson Shine in Doubles

In the doubles Round of 16, Hailey Baptiste and Heather Watson teamed up for a solid victory over Polina Kudermetova and Rebecca Marino. The pair controlled the match with ease, finishing with a scoreline of 6-3, 6-4 to advance in the doubles draw.
