Jack Thompson and Bjorn Hellgren are locked in a thrilling duel at the 2025 Saudi Open presented by PIF after the third round at Dirab Golf & Country Club. Both players finished tied at 18-under-par, setting up a highly anticipated final round. Thompson, starting the day with a one-shot lead, posted a four-under 68, while Hellgren fired a 67 to match the Australian’s total.

American Charles Porter, who carded a 65, sits two shots back in solo third, with Thailand’s Jazz Janewattananond and Malaysia’s Ervin Chang another stroke behind in a share for fourth place. Both leaders are chasing their first Asian Tour victories, having been consistent tour regulars since the pandemic.

Thrilling back-and-forth battle

The day featured a see-saw battle for supremacy. Hellgren grabbed an early advantage with birdies on three and four, only for Thompson to surge ahead with three birdies in four holes from the fifth. The lead traded hands multiple times as both players battled through the front and back nines, culminating in a deadlock at 18-under.

“It’s going to be nerve-wracking and exciting on the first tee tomorrow,” said Thompson. “I’m going to enjoy the moment and try to finish the year strong.” Hellgren reflected on the day with satisfaction despite minor errors in the closing holes, confident he still had a shot at victory.

Contenders chasing the leaders

Charles Porter, standing at six-foot-nine, credited patience and steady putting for his position two shots behind the leaders. “Focusing on breathing, slow walking, and just staying patient really helped,” said the American. Jazz Janewattananond and Ervin Chang are also in contention, with Chang climbing the Asian Tour Order of Merit as he aims to secure his card for next season.
