Justin Brownlee delivered a career-defining performance as Barangay Ginebra defeated TNT, 100-95, in overtime of Game 5 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup Finals before a packed crowd of 18,039 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Friday, June 12. The victory gave Ginebra a 3-2 series lead in the best-of-seven championship.
Brownlee carried the offensive load from start to finish, finishing with a career-high 54 points along with 14 rebounds as the Gin Kings moved one win away from the title. His scoring outburst came at the most crucial moment, especially after TNT controlled large stretches of the contest.
TNT looked in command for most of the game, led by Chris McCullough’s 38 points and 16 rebounds, along with Roger Pogoy’s 23 points. The Tropang 5G built an 11-point lead in the third quarter and still held an 87-80 advantage late in the fourth quarter.

Brownlee takes over late
Ginebra appeared on the brink of defeat before Brownlee ignited a massive scoring run. Trailing 87-80 with under four minutes remaining, he engineered a personal 9-0 surge that flipped the game and gave Ginebra an 89-87 lead with 1:15 left.
TNT responded through Pogoy, who tied the game at 89-all and forced overtime, but Brownlee continued his dominance in the extra period. He scored five crucial points in overtime as Ginebra established control and never looked back.
Brownlee’s 54-point explosion broke his previous career high of 51 points and further cemented his reputation as one of the most dominant imports in history.
RJ Abarrientos added 13 points, Japeth Aguilar chipped in 12, and Troy Rosario contributed 10 as Ginebra’s supporting cast helped secure the win. Scottie Thompson also provided steady all-around play as the team closed out the victory.
TNT received strong performances from McCullough and Pogoy, but the team failed to respond to Brownlee’s late-game surge. Jordan Heading added 13 points, but it was not enough to extend their lead in the series.
Ginebra now holds a 3-2 advantage and moves within one win of clinching the PBA Commissioner’s Cup championship. TNT faces a must-win situation heading into Game 6 as the Finals shift toward a decisive conclusion.
