Converge kept its playoff hopes alive in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup after grinding out a crucial 97-92 victory over TNT Tropang 5G at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The FiberXers refused to fold despite entering the contest under pressure, showing composure and resilience in key stretches to secure only their third win in nine games.

The team relied heavily on its local core to control the tempo and respond to every TNT push, allowing Converge to protect its early lead and execute down the stretch. Their ability to stay organized on both ends proved critical, especially in moments when TNT threatened to swing the momentum.

Arana leads the charge against Bol Bol

Justin Arana delivered a standout performance, finishing with a double-double of 21 points and 10 rebounds while taking on the difficult task of defending TNT’s towering import Bol Bol. His physicality and consistent effort helped Converge hold its ground inside, neutralizing a key advantage for the Tropang 5G.

Arana acknowledged the challenge of facing Bol, pointing to the combination of size and skill he had to deal with throughout the game. Despite that, he focused on giving maximum effort every possession, which translated into a strong all-around showing that anchored the FiberXers.

Local core steps up in crucial moments

Juan Gomez de Liano orchestrated the offense with 16 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists, providing balance and control whenever TNT tried to close the gap. Alec Stockton added 13 points and four steals, contributing both offensively and defensively in key sequences that kept Converge in front.

Mikey Williams also played a pivotal role against his former team, scoring 13 points and knocking down three triples. He delivered in the clutch as well, calmly sinking a free throw in the final seconds to help seal the victory and cap off a composed performance.

Three-point shooting proves decisive

A major factor in the win was Converge’s efficiency from beyond the arc, converting 12 of 29 attempts compared to TNT’s struggles at just 3-of-28 from three-point range. That shooting disparity allowed the FiberXers to build a cushion early and maintain control even as the game tightened late.

Converge took a 41-30 lead at halftime and managed to sustain its edge through the third quarter, an area that had previously been problematic for the team in past games. This time, they held firm and avoided the kind of collapse that had cost them in earlier outings.

With the victory, Converge improved to 3-6 and moved to solo 10th place, keeping its playoff hopes alive. TNT, meanwhile, slipped to a 5-3 record and now finds itself tied with Phoenix Super LPG as the race for positioning continues to intensify.
