A Strong Start, a Tough Lesson

Hwende first made waves in Extreme Fighting Championship (EFC), where he dominated the African MMA circuit as a bantamweight champion. But stepping into BRAVE CF 71 on June 19, 2023, against Velimurad Alkhasov proved to be his biggest test. Suffering his first career loss via unanimous decision, Hwende faced a career-defining moment.

Instead of faltering, he returned stronger, securing a unanimous decision victory over Mutolibsho Akobirov just six months later. His momentum continued with a commanding win against Hurshed Nazarov at BRAVE CF 82 on May 11, 2024, setting the stage for a shot at bantamweight gold.

Claiming the BRAVE CF Bantamweight Championship

Hwende’s defining moment came on December 13, 2024, during the BRAVE CF 91 main event at BRAVE International Combat Week. Facing fellow African standout Nkosi Ndebele, Hwende delivered a striking and grappling masterclass, securing a unanimous decision victory to claim the BRAVE CF Bantamweight Championship.

This historic victory made him the second African fighter to win a BRAVE CF title, solidifying his role as a leader for African MMA. His triumph resonated beyond the cage, fueling the dreams of aspiring fighters across the continent.

What’s Next for Hwende in 2025?

Now sitting atop the bantamweight throne, Hwende’s future is filled with intriguing possibilities:

  • A rematch with Nkosi Ndebele? The former champion may look to reclaim his title.
  • New challengers on the horizon? The division is stacked with rising contenders eager to test ‘The Saint.’
  • Furthering African MMA’s rise? Hwende’s success has opened doors for African fighters, and he remains committed to their growth.

Regardless of what 2025 holds, one thing is certain: Nicholas Hwende is ready to defend his title, break new barriers, and etch his name in MMA history.
