Tennielle “Tenny” Madis, one of the Philippines’ rising tennis stars, once again made waves on the international stage by securing both singles and doubles titles at the ITF J60 Changhua 2024 Seed Academy Cup International Junior Championships in Taiwan.

The Philippine Tennis Academy standout entered the tournament as the second seed and showcased dominance, dropping only eleven games in five matches en route to the singles crown. She clinched the title with a commanding 6-0, 6-4 victory over third-seeded Rira Kosaka of Japan in the finals.

Madis also triumphed in the doubles category alongside her teammate Stefi Marithe Aludo. The dynamic duo defeated Kosaka and Hong Kong’s Ching Laam Lai, 6-3, 6-3, in an impressive display of teamwork and skill.

This victory marks Madis’ fifth singles title of the year, following her wins at the J30 PHINMA Makati City Weeks 1 and 2 in July, and J60 tournaments in Colombo (Sri Lanka) and Nonthaburi (Thailand) earlier this year. Additionally, she has claimed four doubles championships in partnership with Aludo during the same span.

Rising Through the Ranks

Madis’ remarkable performances this year have propelled her into the world’s top 300 junior players in the December rankings—a meteoric rise from having no ranking just six months ago.

The 17-year-old hails from M’Lang, North Cotabato, and continues to train under the Philippine Tennis Academy. With another year left in the Juniors division, she aims to qualify for the prestigious Grand Slam tournaments in 2025, including the French Open and Wimbledon.

Under the guidance of former Philippine No. 1 and Davis Cupper Bobie Angelo, along with the PTA coaching staff, Madis is steadily building her career and earning recognition on the global tennis stage.

Inspiration for Philippine Tennis

PTA Chairman and PHINMA Chairman Emeritus Oscar J. Hilado lauded Madis for her dedication and skill, expressing optimism for her future.

“Our heartfelt congratulations to Tenny for her exceptional achievements,” said Hilado. “Her journey from M’Lang to international tournaments inspires us all and exemplifies the talent and determination of Filipinos in sports. We’re immensely proud of her and look forward to her future accomplishments.”

Madis’ journey highlights the rising talent in Philippine tennis and provides hope for the sport’s growth in the country. With her eyes set on even greater goals, the young athlete continues to make her mark and inspire aspiring tennis players across the nation.
