San Miguel secured a 126-114 victory at the Smart Araneta Coliseum to solidify their place in the PBA Governors’ Cup. Austria returned to the bench following his recovery from an angioplasty and witnessed his team execute a seamless game plan.

San Miguel quickly put behind their recent overtime defeat against TNT to improve their record to 5-2. The victory keeps the Beermen firmly in second place in Group A as the tournament progresses. Meanwhile, Converge dropped their fourth consecutive game to fall to a 3-4 standing.

The game opened with intense back-and-forth action as both teams pushed the tempo from the opening tip. Converge stayed close throughout the first half, trailing by just a single point at 65-64 when the teams headed to the locker room. San Miguel then unleashed a decisive 37-21 scoring burst in the third period to take full control.

King Overpowers FiberXers Defense

Import George King spearheaded the Beermen’s offensive assault with an explosive 46-point display. King also pulled down 14 rebounds and handed out six assists while outmatching the opposition’s defensive schemes. His dominant scoring rhythm set the pace for San Miguel’s entire offensive unit.

With star guard CJ Perez out of action, Don Trollano stepped up to provide essential secondary scoring. Trollano poured in 27 points to lead a bench unit that outscored Converge’s reserves by a 63-38 margin. Jerrick Ahanmisi added 15 points off the pine to keep the pressure on the FiberXers.

Fajardo Dictates Tempo

June Mar Fajardo provided a masterclass in facilitating without needing to look for his own shot. Fajardo recorded a unique stat line of five points, 21 rebounds, and 10 assists to dictate the game’s flow. His elite vision and rebounding allowed San Miguel’s perimeter shooters to thrive all night.

Converge fought hard early behind 26 points each from Jamaal Franklin and Calvin Abueva. Justine Baltazar added 19 points while Justin Arana contributed 17 in a losing effort. However, the FiberXers could not sustain their momentum against San Miguel’s relentless second-half pressure.
