BRAVE CF 107: Biko’s Long-Awaited Grudge Match Finally Set

A fight delayed is not always a fight forgotten — and for Luthando “Shorty” Biko, the wait is about to pay off in the biggest way possible.

More than a year after their original bout collapsed, Biko and Georgia’s Bidzina Gavashelishvili will finally step into the cage together on Saturday, August 1, when they headline the co-main event of BRAVE CF 107 at Burgas Arena in Bulgaria. What was once a promising stylistic clash has transformed into something far bigger: a genuine title eliminator with a shot at BRAVE CF flyweight gold hanging in the balance.

From Cancelled Bout to Career-Defining Clash

The Biko-Gavashelishvili matchup was never supposed to take this long to happen. The two flyweights were originally booked to collide at BRAVE CF 82 back in May 2024, but the bout was scrapped before it could take place, leaving fight fans without the stylistic showdown many had anticipated.

Rather than let the matchup fade away, both men kept climbing. Biko made his official promotional debut at BRAVE CF 93 in April 2025, while Gavashelishvili continued building his own case in the flyweight division. Now, more than a year removed from their scrapped encounter, the two finally collide with far higher stakes attached.

“Sometimes the timing makes a fight even bigger,” Biko said. “We were supposed to meet before, but now everything means more. This is the kind of challenge every competitor wants.”

A South African Journey From KwaZakhele to World Title Contention

Biko’s road to this moment began far from the bright lights of European arenas. Raised in KwaZakhele, a township in Gqeberha, Biko turned ambition into fuel, training relentlessly under coach Chris Bright at the Port Elizabeth Submission Fighting Academy (“PESFA”) to become one of the Eastern Cape’s greatest MMA exports.

A two-time continental champion, Biko had already cemented his legacy across Africa before setting his sights on BRAVE Combat Federation — the world’s fastest-growing global MMA promotion — as the platform to test himself against elite international competition.

“I carry my city with me every time I compete,” Biko said. “I want people back home to know that dreams from Gqeberha can reach the biggest stages in the sport.”

The timing of this rematch could not be more significant. The BRAVE CF flyweight division entered a new era when Muhammad “The Punisher” Mokaev captured the inaugural BRAVE CF Flyweight World Championship at the historic BRAVE 100 in November 2025. With Mokaev now awaiting his first title challenger, a win in Bulgaria would push Biko firmly into the championship conversation.

“It has never been just about getting here,” Biko said. “It has always been about proving that I belong among the best in the world. This is the opportunity I have been working toward for years.”

For Biko, the fight represents more than personal ambition — it’s a chance to spotlight African MMA on the global stage and inspire the next wave of fighters chasing the same dream from townships like KwaZakhele. A victory at BRAVE CF 107 would not just settle old business with Gavashelishvili — it would put “Shorty” within striking distance of BRAVE CF gold.
