The night delivered a mix of submissions, knockouts and hard-fought decisions, underscoring PFL Africa’s commitment to bringing elite MMA competition to new audiences across the continent.
Ocheme Delivers Knockout Highlight
The lightweight tournament co-main event produced one of the most memorable moments of the evening when Nigeria’s Patrick “Star Boi” Ocheme faced Cameroon’s Octave “The Bantu Warrior” Ayinda.
After finding his rhythm early, Ocheme stunned the crowd with a perfectly timed flying knee that ended the fight in spectacular fashion. The first-round knockout improved his professional record to 9-1 and secured his place in the next stage of the lightweight tournament.
In the featherweight showcase main event, hometown favorite Wasi “The Nigerian Jaguar” Adeshina took on Spain’s Ignacio Nacho Campos. Adeshina started aggressively and secured an early takedown, but Campos remained composed and worked his way back into the fight.
After landing a knee from the clinch, Campos capitalized on an opening on the ground and secured a rear-naked choke submission just 1:45 into the opening round. The victory improved his record to 8-2 and spoiled Adeshina’s opportunity to headline a victorious homecoming.
Another standout performance came from undefeated bantamweight Karim Henniene. The Algerian-Canadian prospect needed only 2:23 to finish Thimna Mhlauli with an anaconda choke, extending his perfect record to 7-0 and advancing to the tournament semifinals.
Tournament Fields Take Shape
The bantamweight bracket continued to narrow as Boule Godogo secured a dramatic third-round TKO victory over Dauda Rajabu through relentless ground-and-pound. Dwight Joseph also moved into the semifinals after earning a split-decision victory over Alain Majorique.
Raphael Uchegbu delivered one of the most dominant performances of the event, sweeping all three judges’ scorecards 30-27 against Edson Machavane. The victory earned him a place in the next round and further established him as a contender in the tournament.
In the lightweight division, Demba Seck advanced after a convincing unanimous-decision victory over Jean Do Santos. Hussain Al Kurdi joined him in the semifinals after submitting Abderrahman Errachidy with a rear-naked choke in the second round.
Nigeria’s Cornel Thompson also remained in title contention after securing a unanimous decision victory over Aureo Cruz. The win improved Thompson’s professional record to 12-3 and kept local hopes alive in the tournament.
Outside the tournament brackets, several showcase bouts produced impressive finishes. Brazil’s Elisandra Ferreira handed Nigeria’s Juliet Ukah the first defeat of her professional career with a second-round armbar submission.
Middleweight Jordan Fongno snapped Yahaya Yahuza’s eight-fight winning streak after overwhelming him with strikes for a second-round TKO victory. Meanwhile, Shelda Chipito demonstrated remarkable toughness by overcoming an ankle injury before submitting Egypt’s Haidy Ahmed with a rear-naked choke.
The successful debut marked a major milestone for the Professional Fighters League’s expansion into Africa. The promotion will continue its inaugural PFL Africa season on Oct. 10 in Casablanca, Morocco, where another showcase of emerging and established African talent is scheduled to take place.
