Barangay Ginebra booked its place in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup finals after pulling away from Rain or Shine for a 118-107 victory before a packed crowd at the Ynares Center in Antipolo on Sunday, May 31.
The Gin Kings leaned on another explosive performance from RJ Abarrientos and Justin Brownlee, who once again delivered when it mattered most to close out the semifinals series and secure the franchise’s return to the championship stage.

Ginebra’s victory completed the series in six games and moved the crowd favorites one step closer to another PBA title. The team now awaits the winner of the other semifinal matchup between TNT and Meralco.
Abarrientos, Brownlee power finals run
Abarrientos continued his impressive conference campaign by producing one of his best performances of the season. The young guard finished with 30 points, seven assists, six rebounds and three steals while orchestrating Ginebra’s offense throughout the contest.
Brownlee was equally dominant, posting 31 points, 15 rebounds and five assists as he once again proved why he remains one of the league’s most dependable stars in high-pressure situations.
The duo combined for 61 points, following up their strong Game 5 performance and giving Rain or Shine few answers on either end of the floor.
Scottie Thompson also made key contributions with 16 points, including a crucial three-pointer late in the fourth quarter that effectively sealed the outcome. Ralph Cu added 11 points while providing additional perimeter firepower for the Gin Kings.
Kings withstand Rain or Shine rally
Ginebra established control early and entered halftime with a double-digit advantage. The Elasto Painters, however, refused to fade quietly and mounted a spirited comeback behind a strong third-quarter effort.
Rain or Shine managed to trim the deficit and briefly put pressure on the Gin Kings, but Ginebra responded with timely baskets and steady execution down the stretch.
The Kings also enjoyed a significant edge from beyond the arc, knocking down 16 three-pointers compared to Rain or Shine’s 11 triples. Their outside shooting provided the separation needed whenever the Elasto Painters threatened to close the gap.
The victory sends Ginebra to its 32nd PBA finals appearance and seventh Commissioner’s Cup finals berth. The franchise is seeking its first championship since winning the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup title.
With momentum on their side and their core players firing on all cylinders, the Gin Kings now shift their attention to another shot at a PBA crown.
