Barangay Ginebra delivered a dominant performance to eliminate Phoenix Super LPG, pulling away for a convincing 112-81 victory in their PBA Commissioner’s Cup quarterfinal matchup on Friday, May 15, at the Ynares Center. The win allowed the Gin Kings to maximize their win-once advantage and secure a place in the semifinals.
The result also sets up a highly anticipated best-of-seven series against Rain or Shine, which earlier advanced after a 113-104 win over San Miguel Beer in the other quarterfinal pairing.

Ginebra took control after a tight opening period and steadily built momentum behind strong team execution on both ends of the floor. The breakout second quarter proved decisive as the Gin Kings turned a close contest into a commanding lead before finishing the game in full control.
Brownlee sparks breakaway
Justin Brownlee once again led the charge for Ginebra, finishing with a game-high 24 points alongside five rebounds and five assists. His scoring and playmaking helped fuel the second-quarter surge that broke the game open.
Scottie Thompson also played a major role in the win, posting 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists in an all-around performance that kept Ginebra in control throughout the contest. RJ Abarrientos added 16 points while Stephen Holt and Japeth Aguilar contributed steady support on both ends of the floor.
The Gin Kings unleashed a crucial 14-2 run in the second quarter that stretched a tight game into a double-digit lead, eventually expanding the margin to 20 points by halftime and pushing it further in the second half.
Phoenix fall short late
Phoenix Super LPG struggled to keep pace once Ginebra seized momentum, with defensive breakdowns allowing the Gin Kings to extend their lead to as much as 40 points in the fourth quarter.
Ricci Rivero led the Fuel Masters with 15 points in his return from injury, providing one of the few consistent offensive efforts for the team. Despite flashes of resistance early, Phoenix was unable to sustain its push against Ginebra’s depth and efficiency.
The loss ends Phoenix’s bid for a semifinal return and closes their campaign under coach Charles Tiu, as Ginebra moves forward with confidence into a high-stakes series against Rain or Shine.
