The Professional Fighters League has officially set the stage for one of its biggest welterweight clashes yet as undefeated Thad Jean prepares to face Shamil Musaev for the vacant PFL Welterweight World Championship on July 25 in Washington, D.C.

Jean, the unbeaten 2025 PFL Welterweight Tournament Champion, now steps into the defining fight of his career against Musaev, the accomplished 2024 tournament winner, in a battle between the division’s last two tournament champions.

With former champion Ramazan Kuramagomedov stripped of the title, the championship picture has dramatically shifted. This creates a massive opportunity for both elite contenders to stake their claim as the division’s undisputed king.

Jean faces defining night

Jean’s undefeated ascent has been fueled by dominant performances against some of the toughest names in the division.

His 2025 tournament run included a first-round knockout over Mukhamed Berkhamov, a statement victory over former Bellator champion Jason Jackson, and a grueling five-round decision over Logan Storley.

Those victories established Jean as one of PFL’s fastest-rising stars. However, Musaev presents an entirely different challenge with a résumé already packed with elite-level wins.

The seasoned Russian standout has proven his status with victories over Storley, Murad Ramazanov, and Magomed Umalatov. His experience and championship composure make him perhaps Jean’s most dangerous test to date.

Musaev seeks lasting gold

While Jean is chasing global recognition, Musaev enters this fight with a mission centered on legacy.

Already regarded as one of the world’s premier welterweights, Musaev is pursuing the one accolade still missing from his accomplished career: official PFL world champion status.

His technical precision, proven durability, and championship pedigree position him as a dangerous obstacle for any contender. For Jean, victory would validate his unbeaten rise, while for Musaev, a win would cement his place atop the division.

When the cage door closes in Washington, D.C., this matchup will decide more than just championship gold. It will determine who truly stands as PFL’s premier welterweight force.
