Magnolia kept its PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup campaign alive with a 95-89 win over Meralco at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday, May 13. The Hotshots erased the Bolts’ twice-to-beat advantage and forced a winner-take-all Game 2.

The Hotshots leaned on defense and late-game execution to survive Meralco’s fourth-quarter push. The Bolts briefly grabbed the lead late, but Magnolia responded in the final stretch to close it out.

“We just lived to fight another game, no time to celebrate,” said Magnolia coach LA Tenorio.

Chapman powers Magnolia

Clint Chapman anchored Magnolia with 21 points and 12 rebounds, controlling key interior possessions throughout the game. His presence stabilized the Hotshots whenever Meralco threatened to swing momentum.

Magnolia built separation in the middle quarters behind a 49-35 run. Their defensive pressure forced difficult shots while their offense maintained steady scoring.

Meralco’s late surge

Chris Newsome led Meralco’s comeback attempt as the Bolts erased a double-digit deficit and briefly took the lead in the final minutes. The push forced Magnolia into a tight finish.

Magnolia answered through Chapman, who hit a key three-pointer before setting up Zav Lucero for a crucial basket. Jerom Lastimosa sealed the win with clutch free throws and hustle plays on both ends.

Chapman finished with 21 points and 12 rebounds, while Lastimosa added 17 points and all-around contributions. Rome dela Rosa scored 11, Ian Sangalang had 10, and Magnolia’s balanced attack proved decisive.
