San Miguel Beer quickly shook off the sting of its shocking Blackwater defeat, delivering a statement performance Tuesday night with a commanding 103-92 victory over Meralco in the PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup at Ninoy Aquino Stadium. The Beermen used a relentless second-half turnaround to revive their playoff momentum and reclaim a crucial .500 record.
The bounce-back win pushed San Miguel to 5-5, allowing the Beermen to seize solo seventh place in the standings while creating valuable separation from fellow postseason contenders Magnolia and Converge. More importantly, it restored confidence for a squad determined to remain a dangerous force heading into the final stretch.

San Miguel’s second-half surge overwhelms Meralco
After trailing 55-48 at halftime, San Miguel unleashed a dominant response behind its veteran core and timely contributions from returning players. Coach Leo Austria’s squad tightened defensively while finding offensive rhythm, flipping the game completely in the final two quarters.
June Mar Fajardo once again proved why he remains the league’s premier big man, finishing with 19 points and 17 rebounds while controlling the paint on both ends. Don Trollano made an immediate impact in his return from illness, adding 16 points and delivering key baskets that helped shift momentum.
Import Bennie Boatwright continued to stabilize the Beermen’s frontline with 16 points, 11 rebounds, and four assists. CJ Perez and Mo Tautuaa also chipped in double-digit outputs, giving San Miguel the balanced production it desperately needed.
Meralco falters after strong start
Meralco opened the game with urgency, fueled by import Marvin Jones, who erupted for a game-high 26 points along with 13 rebounds. Chris Newsome added 18 markers, while Chris Banchero and CJ Cansino each contributed 12 points.
Despite their explosive first-half showing, the Bolts struggled to sustain their offensive pace as San Miguel’s defensive adjustments began to take effect. Meralco’s inability to respond in the second half ultimately resulted in its second straight loss, dropping the team to 5-3.
For San Miguel, the victory was more than just another win—it was a crucial reset after a costly stumble. With Boatwright regaining form and key players returning healthy, the Beermen appear poised to make a serious push as the playoff race intensifies.
