Donovan Smith made an immediate impact as Converge rolled to a dominant 130-103 victory over Phoenix in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on Sunday, April 26. The FiberXers leaned on their new import’s scoring and presence to control the game from start to finish.
Smith delivered 32 points, 12 rebounds, and three blocks, providing the offensive spark Converge had been missing in previous outings. His performance powered the FiberXers to their second straight win, improving their record to 4-6 and strengthening their push toward playoff contention.

Phoenix played without import James Dickey III, who sat out to recover from an ankle injury, and struggled to match Converge’s firepower throughout the contest. The Fuel Masters dropped to 5-4, slipping in the standings as the playoff race tightens.
Smith delivers immediate impact for Converge
Smith wasted no time asserting himself, scoring early and setting the tone with his offensive aggression and inside presence. He scored eight points in the opening quarter to help Converge build a 29-16 lead that set the foundation for the blowout.
His combination of scoring, rebounding, and rim protection gave Converge a balanced advantage on both ends of the floor. The FiberXers capitalized on his presence to maintain control and steadily widen the gap.
Coach Delta Pineda emphasized the importance of getting production from the import position, noting that the team needed scoring support to stay competitive in crucial games. The quick decision to replace Kylor Kelley with Smith paid immediate dividends.
Converge boosts playoff push with second straight win
Converge followed up its upset victory over TNT with another strong showing, gaining momentum at a critical point in the conference. The FiberXers now sit within reach of the middle pack, including San Miguel and Magnolia, as they chase a quarterfinal spot.
Smith expressed satisfaction with the win but acknowledged there is still room to improve as he continues to integrate with the team. He also noted the missed opportunity to face Phoenix’s import but remained focused on helping Converge secure victories.
Without Dickey, Phoenix struggled to find consistency on both ends, allowing Converge to dictate the pace and dominate the matchup. The Fuel Masters were unable to recover after falling behind early and could not mount a serious comeback.
The victory puts Converge in a stronger position moving forward, with renewed confidence and improved offensive production as the playoff race intensifies.
