World No. 4 Novak Djokovic continued his quest for a record-extending 25th Grand Slam title with a commanding straight-sets victory over Italian qualifier Francesco Maestrelli at the Australian Open. The 38-year-old Serb demonstrated experience and precision in sunny conditions on Rod Laver Arena.

Djokovic hit 19 winners in a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 win, backing up his opening round triumph over Pedro Martinez. The victory marked Djokovic’s 101st Australian Open win in a two-hour and 15-minute contest.

Outclassing the young challenger

Maestrelli, 23, came off a first-round Grand Slam win against France’s Terence Atmane and showed promise against the seasoned champion. He fought gamely, but Djokovic used his wealth of experience to neutralize break points and maintain control throughout the match.

The Italian qualifier struggled to match Djokovic’s heavy hitting and strategic serving. Despite flashes of competitive play, he could not prevent the Serb from dominating the baseline and dictating the pace of the game.

Djokovic’s next challenge

Djokovic, wearing a green shirt, will meet Botic van de Zandschulp of the Netherlands in the third round. The match will test Djokovic’s stamina and adaptability as he continues his campaign for an 11th Australian Open title.

The Serb’s athleticism and tactical maturity remain hallmarks of his game, proving he can still compete at the highest level despite advancing age. Fans will watch closely as Djokovic looks to extend his Grand Slam legacy in Melbourne.
