Mirra Andreeva advances to Adelaide International quarterfinals

World No. 8 Mirra Andreeva defeated Marie Bouzkova 6-3, 6-1 on Tuesday, Jan. 13, to reach the quarterfinals of the Adelaide International, an Australian Open warm-up tournament in Adelaide, Australia. The 18-year-old Russian dominated her opponent in one hour and nine minutes, showing poise and aggression in her first match of the event.

The victory allowed Andreeva to continue her strong preparation ahead of the Australian Open. Bouzkova, ranked 45th in the world, struggled to recover from early setbacks after a demanding first-round match on Monday.

Andreeva’s performance and key moments

Andreeva fell behind 3-1 in the opening set after her serve was broken but quickly regained control, winning five consecutive games to take the set. She then carried her momentum into the second set, capturing four straight games to seal the straight-sets win.

“I’m super happy with the way I played today,” Andreeva said. “I knew it would not be an easy match, and I’m just happy that I stayed calm and kept playing aggressive.”

Statistically, Andreeva hit 29 winners and 15 unforced errors, compared to Bouzkova’s 10 winners and 16 unforced errors. Bouzkova received medical attention early in the second set, but could not turn the match around.

Quarterfinals and tournament updates

Andreeva will face the winner of Wednesday’s match between Australians Maya Joint and Ajla Tomljanovic in the quarterfinals. Meanwhile, Marketa Vondrousova defeated world No. 18 Liudmila Samsonova 6-1, 4-6, 6-2 to advance to the second round, where she will face Australian Kimberly Birrell.
