Phoenix refused to loosen its grip on the playoff race after outlasting Blackwater, 106-98, on Saturday, December 6, at the Ynares Sports Center in Antipolo in another tight PBA Philippine Cup showdown. Jason Perkins set the tone with his most productive outing of the conference, while Ricci Rivero gave the Fuel Masters a major spark off the bench.
Perkins imposed himself early and never relented, finishing with 33 points on an efficient scoring night highlighted by 13-of-20 shooting. He added seven rebounds and two assists as Phoenix secured its second win in three games.
Rivero stepped in with equal urgency, firing 25 points built on 6-of-10 shooting and a near-perfect 12-of-13 clip from the stripe. He also hauled nine rebounds and handed out three assists while helping stabilize Phoenix in key stretches.

Fuel Masters stay within striking range
The victory pushed Phoenix to 3-6, keeping it level with Titan Ultra and within reach of Meralco and Barangay Ginebra, who currently share seventh at 3-4. Coach Willy Wilson’s group still faces a steep climb with Meralco and Titan Ultra up next, but the win ensured its postseason chances remain intact.
Perkins and Rivero teamed up once more in the closing minutes, delivering the final blows that kept Blackwater winless since its opening-game win over Terrafirma.
Blackwater continues to slide
Blackwater absorbed its seventh consecutive loss despite a 25-point showing from Sedrick Barefield, who tried to keep his squad afloat throughout the night. Christian David added 18 points and 10 rebounds, while Abu Tratter and Dalph Panopio chipped in 18 and 12 points, respectively.
The Bossing now brace for a brutal end to their elimination round with Barangay Ginebra, San Miguel Beer and TNT lined up in their remaining schedule.
