Elena Rybakina delivered one of her most composed performances of the season, rallying from a set down to beat world No. 2 Iga Swiatek and secure a semifinal berth at the WTA Finals in Riyadh on Monday.
The sixth-seeded Kazakh star, who had lost all four of her matches to Swiatek earlier this year, overcame a slow start to claim a 3-6, 6-1, 6-0 victory. The result extended her perfect run in group play and guaranteed her top spot in the “Serena Williams” group with one match still to play.

Rybakina breaks streak with dominant finish
Swiatek controlled the opening set with an early break and steady baseline rhythm, but the momentum shifted sharply in the second as Rybakina elevated her serve and aggression.
Swiatek unraveled under pressure as Rybakina broke twice to take the second set, then stormed through the decider without dropping a game, completing a six-game sweep to close out the match in emphatic fashion.
“I feel like she started the match really well and I was a little bit slow,” Rybakina said. “In the second set, I pushed myself. My serve improved, and I’m really happy that I stepped in and played better each point.”
The victory snapped Rybakina’s losing streak to Swiatek and reinforced her standing as one of the tour’s most dangerous big-match competitors.
Anisimova keeps hopes alive for semifinal shot
In the group’s other match, fourth seed Amanda Anisimova fought back to defeat fellow American Madison Keys, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2, keeping her semifinal hopes alive.
With two rounds completed, Rybakina has secured passage to the knockout stage, while Swiatek and Anisimova will battle on Wednesday for the group’s final semifinal slot.
