Colegio de San Juan de Letran overcame a gritty challenge from Mapua University to complete a 25-19, 25-23, 25-18 sweep in the 2025 V-League Collegiate Challenge on Sunday, August 24, morning at the Paco Arena Events and Sports Center in Manila.

The Lady Knights, fresh off a five-set win over University of Perpetual Help System DALTA, leaned on Judiel Nitura, Sheena Sarie, and Gia Maquilang to capture their second straight victory and improve to 2-2, good for solo fourth place in the tournament organized by Sports Vision.

Nitura paced Letran with 16 points from 13 attacks and two blocks, while Sarie delivered 15 points alongside 10 excellent receptions. Maquilang added 13 points and 10 digs, while playmaker Natalie Esteller tallied 18 excellent sets and five points.

Letran stays composed in crucial moments

Mapua threatened in the second set, rallying to tie the score at 21-all. But Letran responded with a clutch 4-2 run capped by a Nitura crosscourt kill and a Maquilang ace to take a commanding two-set lead.

The Lady Cardinals again showed fight in the third set, even grabbing an 11-9 lead after a Nicole Ong quick attack and a Freighanne Garcia block. However, the Lady Knights answered with a 10-3 surge behind Nitura, Sarie, and Maquilang to seize control and eventually close out the match in just 75 minutes.

Despite Ong’s 11-point effort highlighted by six blocks, Mapua fell to 0-4 in the tournament. Garcia and Raissa Ricablanca added eight points apiece, but their contributions were not enough to extend the match.

Letran now turns its focus to unbeaten Adamson University on Wednesday, September 3, in a crucial test of consistency. Meanwhile, Mapua seeks its first win against Ateneo de Manila University on Saturday, August 30.
