Clearskiiin may be sorting out its starting lineup, but its depth is already showing. The newcomer UV Smashers rallied from a first-set loss to beat 3B, 21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 25-16, in their Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference debut on Thursday, October 15.

Coach Joe Bangit, making his Spikers’ Turf coaching debut, said he has had a difficult time settling on a starting six. That did not stop Clearskiiin from opening its first conference in the 10-team field with a win.

“I think it was exciting, you know. I love the fact that, number one, we were able to get everyone in,” Bangit said. He added that the full-roster effort reflected how hard the team has worked in practice.

Vince Abrot finished with 13 points on 10 kills, two aces and a block after coming off the bench and starting the final three sets. Jay Rack De La Noche added 12 points, while Louis Gamban chipped in 10.

Harry Ocay led all scorers with 23 points on 22 kills and one kill block, while Ralph Cabalsa added 10 and Carl Berdal scored eight for 3B. Even so, the Event Masters could not capitalize on the UV Smashers’ 29 errors.
