Final Four Finally? Converge Can Break Franchise Barrier Friday vs. Rain or Shine

Converge is one win away from history. The FiberXers lead Rain or Shine 2-1 in the PBA Governors’ Cup quarterfinals and can clinch the franchise’s first semifinal berth at 7:30 p.m. Friday, November 6, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Game 4 of the best-of-five series offers a chance to end years of frustration for a team that keeps reaching the quarterfinals but has never made the final four. A loss would force a deciding Game 5.

Converge Eyes First Semifinal Berth

The FiberXers have made a habit of reaching the quarterfinals, but the final four has remained out of reach since they entered the league. Rain or Shine is part of that history, having stopped them in last season’s Commissioner’s Cup.

Last season alone, Converge was stopped three times: by San Miguel Beer in the Governors’ Cup, Rain or Shine in the Commissioner’s Cup and Barangay Ginebra in the Philippine Cup. This time feels different.

Converge blew a huge lead in a painful 120-124 loss in Game 1, then bounced back with a 130-125 win in Game 2 and a dominant 105-89 rout in Game 3. Those back-to-back statement wins flipped the series and gave the FiberXers the momentum.

Why Converge Can Finish the Job

Coach Delta Pineda has the tools to finish the job. Justin Arana, Justine Baltazar, veteran Calvin Abueva, Larry Muyang and Jonnel Policarpio give Converge size, muscle and versatility against the Elasto Painters’ bigs.

The backcourt is just as dangerous. Mikey Williams, Alec Stockton, Juan Gomez de Liaño, John Lloyd Clemente and Archie Concepcion are all peaking at the right time, giving Converge multiple shot creators and perimeter threats.

Import Cameron Clark has been steady as the anchor on both ends. A win Friday would not only erase years of quarterfinal frustration but also set up a semifinal showdown with NLEX.

Rain or Shine, however, is a fighting team that has proven it can rally from behind. But with two chances to close out the series, Converge’s belief is stronger than ever, and the breakthrough is finally within reach.
