The Philippine Sports Commission is set to revolutionize the country’s golf landscape with the launch of the “Fairway to the Future” grassroots development program, an ambitious initiative designed to make golf more accessible to young Filipinos from all backgrounds. Partnering with the National Golf Association of the Philippines, the program seeks to break long-standing barriers that have traditionally kept the sport within elite circles.
Set for formal launch on May 18 at Club Intramuros Golf Course in Manila, the initiative opens new pathways for public school students, children of caddies, and underserved youth to train on quality courses under accredited coaching systems. The move aligns with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s broader push to strengthen grassroots sports nationwide.

Inclusive golf program aims to democratize access nationwide
PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio emphasized that golf should no longer remain exclusive to private clubs and wealthy communities. Through partnerships with government agencies and participating golf facilities, the program will provide youth golfers aged 18 and below access to 20 designated golf courses nationwide.
Players will be able to train daily from afternoon until twilight, while driving ranges will remain available throughout the day with supervision from NGAP-accredited coaches. This structure ensures aspiring golfers receive consistent, elite-level instruction regardless of socioeconomic status.
Building future champions while driving social mobility
Beyond sports development, Fairway to the Future is positioned as a long-term socio-economic empowerment initiative. By creating broader participation opportunities, the program aims to discover hidden talent across the country while developing medal prospects for future international competitions, including Olympic pathways.
NGAP President Al Panlilio described the initiative as a world-first model in inclusive golf development, while NGAP officials also highlighted coach education through The R&A’s professional training systems. Together, the program represents a major paradigm shift for Philippine sports and could redefine the country’s future in competitive golf.
