JP Bugaoan stepped up when Savouge needed stability the most, steering the Spin Doctors back on course in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference after a brief skid. The veteran middle blocker delivered crucial performances that helped the team regain momentum heading into the business end of the preliminaries.

Savouge entered the stretch reeling from back-to-back losses to the Criss Cross King Crunchers, raising concerns about their consistency. Instead of folding, the team responded with composure, leaning on Bugaoan’s surprising offensive surge to secure two morale-boosting wins.

The 6-foot-3 middle blocker emerged as an unlikely scoring leader, providing both presence at the net and leadership on the floor. His efforts proved vital in punching Savouge’s ticket to the round-robin semifinals.

Bugaoan delivers when Savouge needs him most

For his impact, Bugaoan was named the unanimous Spikers’ Turf Press Corps Player of the Week presented by Pilipinas Live for the period of March 18 to 20. The recognition highlighted not just his numbers, but his ability to respond under pressure and deliver in key moments.

Bugaoan credited the coaching staff and veteran teammates for helping him adjust in his first conference with the squad. He emphasized the importance of guidance and chemistry, especially with the semifinals approaching where cohesion becomes critical.

He first made his presence felt in Savouge’s dominant straight-sets win over 3B, finishing with 10 points in a one-sided contest. While the victory showcased the team’s firepower, it was only a preview of what he would deliver in their next outing.

Facing Alpha Insurance, Bugaoan elevated his game further, playing a central role in Savouge’s comeback from two sets down. His performance anchored the team’s resilience and turned the tide in a high-pressure situation.

Chemistry building at the right time for Spin Doctors

Bugaoan erupted for a team-high 17 points built on 12 attacks, four blocks, and an ace in the five-set reverse sweep. His consistency on both ends allowed Savouge to regain control and complete a crucial turnaround win.

Head coach Sydney Calderon praised Bugaoan’s discipline and willingness to adapt, noting how quickly he has blended into the system. The coach highlighted that his ability to both follow instructions and guide teammates has strengthened the team dynamic.

Bugaoan stood out among several contenders for the weekly honor, including teammate Joeven Dela Vega, AEP-Cabstars standouts Jay Rack Dela Noche and Jared Schnake, and Criss Cross opposite hitter Jaron Requinton. His all-around impact ultimately made the difference in the selection process.

Savouge now looks to close out the preliminaries on a strong note with upcoming matches against VNS Always Bright Laticrete and AEP-Cabstars. With the semifinals looming and records set to reset, the Spin Doctors aim to carry their momentum forward.
