The Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) and Japan Volleyball Association (JVA) have reaffirmed their partnership to boost volleyball’s prominence across Asia. This collaboration aims to further develop the sport in the Philippines, particularly as the country prepares to host the FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship in 2025.
On Thursday, January 9, Japan’s Minister and Consul General Takahiro Hanada led the turnover of volleyball equipment from the JVA to the PNVF at its new office in The Bonifacio Prime, Taguig City.
Taguig City Mayor Lani Cayetano graced the LOC Executive Board meeting in the ribbon-cutting ceremony for the PNVF AVC headquarters.
Strengthening Volleyball Ties
Hanada expressed his optimism for the growing volleyball culture in the Philippines, emphasizing the significance of the partnership.
“With the sport seeing record-breaking attendances and emerging talents, I believe our cooperation comes at an exciting time for volleyball’s culture,” Hanada stated.
The Japanese envoy also highlighted the importance of nurturing Filipino youth through sports.
“We are proud to have this equipment in the hands of young and eager Filipinos. It is my hope that these volleyballs fuel the dreams and connections of the Philippines’ youth,” he added.
Suzara: “The Philippines is a Volleyball Country”
PNVF president Ramon “Tats” Suzara expressed deep gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support.
“These equipment will fuel the enthusiasm of young players in the provinces… These balls will reach many young players in Mindanao, Visayas, and Luzon,” Suzara said.
He also underscored the importance of the partnership not just in providing resources but also in coaching, national team training camps, and sports management.
“We appreciate Japan’s continued support of Asian volleyball, and we aim to strengthen this relationship even further,” he added.
Volleyball for Tomorrow
The collaboration aligns with Japan’s “Sport for Tomorrow” program, which promotes international sports exchange and cooperation. This initiative aims to harness sports as a catalyst for global harmony and prosperity.
Hanada ceremonially handed over the equipment to Suzara and team members from the Alas Pilipinas women’s and men’s teams, including Thea Gagate, Dawn Catindig, Vince Lorenzo, and EJ Casaña.
Suzara also gave the Japanese consul general a tour of the new PNVF headquarters, which will serve as the operational base for the upcoming FIVB Men’s Volleyball World Championship.
