AVC: Rebisco swept by Altay as Pinoy teams go winless in Day 1

Rebisco-Philippines suffered a straight sets loss to Kazakhstan club Altay, 25-23, 25-13, 25-17 on Friday as Filipino teams went winless in the opening day of the 2021 AVC Asian Women’s Club Volleyball Championship in Thailand.

The taller and better-defending Altay side dictated control of the match in the last two sets against Rebisco, a mix of youngsters and veterans coached by Brazilian mentor Jorge Souza de Brito.

Rebisco was unable to avenge its fellow Filipino club Choco Mucho, which had lost earlier to Nakhon Ratchasima QminC VC–also in three sets.

The Filipinas gave the Kazakhs some fits in the first frame, tying the score at 17 at one point.

But after Altay was able to adjust, they were hardly challenged the rest of the way, going on an 16-5 surge in the second set and 18-9 in the third.

Rebisco is composed of players like Faith Nisperos, Jennifer Nierva, Mhicaela Belen, and Bernadette Pepito. Kim Kianna Dy and Majoy Baron were last-minute additions, transferring from Choco Mucho.

Rebisco will take on Thailand’s Supreme Chonburi in Pool B action tomorrow, Saturday, before closing its preliminary campaign against Iran’s Saipa Tehran on Sunday.

The Thai club beat its Iranian counterparts, 3-1 earlier in the competition.
