Ish Polvorosa earns Spikers’ Turf Player of the Week as Criss Cross continues dominant run

Behind every dominant spiker stands an elite playmaker.

For the Criss Cross King Crunchers, that role belongs to Ish Polvorosa, whose masterful ball distribution has propelled the team to an unbeaten 6-0 record in the 2025 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference.

His steady playmaking has been the backbone of Criss Cross’ attack, setting up his teammates with precision while showcasing his defensive prowess. This outstanding form has earned him the Spikers’ Turf Press Corps Player of the Week honor for the week of March 5 to 9.

Polvorosa leads Criss Cross to a statement win over Cignal

Polvorosa delivered a standout performance in Criss Cross’ biggest win of the season—a stunning straight-set sweep of defending champion Cignal HD Spikers (25-23, 25-21, 25-17). The 27-year-old setter recorded 18 excellent sets and showcased his all-around game with four kill blocks, neutralizing Cignal’s firepower.

Just days later, Polvorosa orchestrated another dominant performance, steering Criss Cross to a 25-10, 25-12, 25-11 rout of Alpha Insurance with 12 excellent sets and a point scored.

A different mindset for a title-hungry squad

Despite their perfect start, Polvorosa and Criss Cross remain locked in on their bigger goal—finally capturing the Spikers’ Turf championship after two runner-up finishes in 2024.

We’ve learned from the past year that just because we have a strong start, it does not mean we can be complacent, Polvorosa shared. That is not the goal. At the end of the day, we have to stay focused and take it one game at a time toward the championship we have been working for.

This fresh approach is also reflected in his individual mindset.

At this point in my career, I really want to win, but I have also learned that I do not need to win to feel fulfilled. My focus now is to stay present—enjoy every match, every set, and every win without getting caught up in the end goal, he added.

A well-earned recognition

Polvorosa made history as the first setter to be named Player of the Week this season, edging out fellow standouts Jude Garcia and Jaron Requinton from Criss Cross, Mark Calado from Savouge, and Wendel Miguel from Cignal for the weekly award.

With Polvorosa at the helm, the King Crunchers will look to extend their unbeaten streak when they face the VNS-Laticrete Griffins on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Arena.
