In a thrilling start to the 2024-25 PVL All-Filipino Conference, the PLDT High Speed Hitters rallied to a 25-15, 25-17, 22-25, 25-22 win against the Nxled Chameleons at the Philsports Arena. With this win, the High Speed Hitters join the Akari Chargers and Petro Gazz Angels as early leaders in the season-opening competition, which will run until April 2025.
The Nxled Chameleons, who are now led by Italian head coach Ettore Guidetti, showed resilience after losing the first two sets. Led by rising talents Lucille Almonte, Chiara Permentilla, and Krich Macaslang, they claimed a hard-fought third set, 25-22, setting the stage for a competitive fourth set.
However, the PLDT High Speed Hitters, bolstered by the return of Savi Davison, launched an impressive 16-5 run in the fourth set. Davison delivered a standout performance, scoring 19 points and recording nine excellent receptions. Alongside her, Erika Santos, Dell Palomata, and Fiola Ceballos played crucial roles in securing the win.
“Good start pa rin sa amin considering kakabalik lang din ni Savi tapos bagong salang si Angge (Alcantara). Yung performance sayang hindi namin na-straight sets so ‘yun pa ‘yung kailangan namin i-work on siguro,” remarked PLDT head coach Rald Ricafort. The team also saw solid contributions from rookie setter Angge Alcantara, who posted 13 excellent sets and scored three points in her first starting role.
Defensive stalwart Majoy Baron, a key figure in PLDT’s blocking game, contributed 14 points with seven blocks, pushing the team’s total to 16 blocks.
For the Nxled Chameleons, Chiara Permentilla led with a powerful 21 points on 21 attacks, complemented by 15 excellent receptions and 10 digs. Lycha Ebon added 15 points, while Almonte contributed nine points and 14 receptions.
Both teams will be back in action on Tuesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo City, where the High Speed Hitters will face Galeries Tower at 6:30 p.m., and Nxled will match up against ZUS Coffee at 4:00 p.m. Fans can expect another round of intense action as the PVL 2024-25 All-Filipino Conference unfolds.
