V-League Collegiate Challenge: Lady Blazers, Tams clash in crucial tiff

The highlight of the third playdate of the 2024 V-League Collegiate Challenge at Paco Arena in Manila today, August 4, is the clash between defending champions St. Benilde Lady Blazers and Far Eastern University with both teams are eager to bounce back from unexpected first-game losses.

Set for 3:00 p.m., the match of last year’s title protagonists promises intense action from top collegiate volleyball players both in the women’s and men’s divisions, with each squad aiming to build momentum.

FEU and CSB will battle for their first win following FEU’s five-set loss to the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons and CSB’s three-set defeat to the University of the East Lady Warriors last Wednesday.

In the 5 p.m. main event, the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses will face the Lady Warriors, with both sides vying for their second consecutive V-League win.

Jonna Perdido and Angge Poyos aim to lead UST to another victory, while Khy Cepada and the returning Jelai Gajero will bolster the Tigresses’ defense.

“We need to prepare ourselves as there are many areas we need to improve. They also have rookies, and players who were off the bench last season are now contributing. Adjustments are necessary,” said UST head coach Kungfu Reyes.

In the men’s division, reigning champions National University Bulldogs seek their second win against the Emilio Aguinaldo College Generals at 10 a.m.

Michaelo Buddin and Leo Aringo hope to continue their strong performances in the Bulldogs’ post-Retamar and Almendras era, while remaining cautious of the competitive NCAA teams like the Generals.

“No matter who our opponent is, we always prepare. There are no weak teams here in the V-League; everyone is strong,” said NU assistant coach Dong Dela Cruz.

At 12 p.m., the Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles will take on the FEU Tamaraws.

Aimar Okeke aims to lead Ateneo to an undefeated start under interim head coach Vince Mangulabnan, while facing the challenge from the Mikko Espartero and Dryx Saavedra-led FEU team.

Games will be aired on Solar Sports, vleague.ph/live, and the V-League’s YouTube channel.
