PLDT pulled off a stunning feat Tuesday. The High Speed Hitters beat Creamline for the second time in three days.

PLDT rallied from a fourth-set deficit to win. The final score was 25-20, 20-25, 25-21, 25-22, clinching bronze at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The win capped a grueling stretch for PLDT. Two days earlier, they had already knocked Creamline out of Finals contention.

Kim Fajardo earned Best Player of the Game honors. She credited the team’s resolve over any single performance.

“Kailangan namin itawid nang maayos ‘tong tournament na ‘to,” she said. She pointed to the fatigue the squad had fought through all tournament.

Davison, Prado Lead PLDT’s Bronze-Medal Charge

Savi Davison once again carried the offense. She exploded for 29 points, just days after a career-high 37 against Creamline.

Davison also finished with a triple-double. She added 15 digs and 13 receptions to her scoring total.

Jovie Prado closed out her Invitational run with 12 points. Several came in crucial moments late in the match.

Kim Dy chipped in 10 points as a second scoring option. Mika Reyes and Majoy Baron added eight and five, respectively.

Fajardo ran the offense with 15 excellent sets. That was four fewer than Creamline’s Kyle Negrito, but still efficient enough to fuel the win.

PLDT Survives Fourth-Set Scare to Seal the Win

Creamline looked poised to force a fifth set. Jema Galanza’s hit gave them an 18-14 cushion in the fourth.

PLDT answered immediately. The High Speed Hitters won four of the next five points to cut the gap to one.

PLDT tied the set on an ace. Jessey de Leon’s crosscourt winner then put them ahead for good.

Michele Gumabao briefly leveled it at 21-all. Prado and Davison answered with back-to-back winners for a 23-21 edge.

A late service error stalled PLDT’s momentum. The team recovered quickly and reached match point soon after.

Davison sealed the win with an off-balance push. The ball landed just out, a call confirmed by replay after Creamline’s challenge.

Minowa paced Creamline with 19 points. Galanza added 16 in the loss.

Tots Carlos and Ishie Lalongisip chipped in 11 and 10, respectively. Creamline settled for a fourth-place finish uncharacteristic of the storied program.

For PLDT, the result offered a different kind of validation. Even without a Finals berth, they beat their fiercest rival twice and left with a bronze medal to prove it.
