The Vermosa Green Run is set to celebrate a major milestone as it returns for its fifth consecutive staging on June 28 at Vermosa in Imus, Cavite.

What started as a pioneering advocacy run that helped bring communities back to outdoor fitness activities after the pandemic has evolved into one of the country’s most recognizable sustainability-focused running events. The annual gathering continues to attract elite athletes, fitness enthusiasts, casual runners, families, and pet lovers seeking a unique blend of health, recreation, and environmental awareness.

Organizers are introducing several new eco-conscious initiatives this year as they seek to strengthen the running community’s commitment to sustainable living and environmental conservation.

The event’s scenic route, known for its lush green surroundings and nature-filled atmosphere, remains one of its main attractions. Participants will once again have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a setting designed to encourage appreciation for nature and environmentally responsible lifestyles.

Sustainability takes center stage

The fifth edition of the Vermosa Green Run places an even stronger emphasis on sustainability by encouraging participants to take part in localized waste reduction efforts.

Runners can receive race kit discounts by bringing used PET water bottles or food containers during registration. The collected materials will be turned over to Makati Development Corporation for conversion into eco bricks that can be utilized in sustainable construction projects and community initiatives.

The move is intended to promote responsible waste management while demonstrating how recyclable materials can be repurposed into useful products that benefit communities and the environment.

Organizers have also incorporated sustainability into the event merchandise. Race shirts, singlets, and dog bandanas will all be produced from recycled PET bottles, reinforcing the event’s commitment to environmentally responsible practices.

According to Ayala Land Project Development Manager Kristin Raval-Ofilada, the decision to use recycled materials was intentional and designed to remind participants that every aspect of the event supports conscious resource use.

The 2026 edition will continue implementing responsible hydration systems and waste reduction measures throughout the race to encourage environmentally friendly habits beyond race day.

Forest restoration initiative launched

One of the most significant additions to this year’s event is a partnership with the Haribon Foundation through its Forests for Life Movement.

Groups consisting of at least 10 participants will automatically become part of the initiative, helping support native tree planting and forest restoration efforts in partner communities across the country.

The program follows a science-based rainforestation approach focused on planting and nurturing native tree species to restore degraded forests and strengthen biodiversity.

Organizers believe the initiative will provide participants with a direct opportunity to contribute to long-term environmental conservation efforts beyond simply joining the race.

Restored forests play a critical role in protecting water sources, preserving fertile soil, and maintaining stable climate conditions. These environmental benefits ultimately support communities that depend on healthy ecosystems for their livelihood and well-being.

The partnership underscores the event’s goal of transforming participation into meaningful environmental action that delivers lasting impact.

Health, fitness and community engagement

While sustainability remains a central theme, the Vermosa Green Run continues to promote holistic wellness and active lifestyles.

This year’s event will feature multiple race categories, including 3K, 5K, 10K, and 21K distances, along with a 1K Dog Run designed for pet owners and their furry companions.

The event also supports several advocacy partners, including Haribon Foundation, Takbo Kabitenyo, and Pawssion Project. Organizers believe environmental conservation, animal welfare, and human wellness are interconnected causes that can be advanced through community participation.

The race will once again utilize the facilities of the Ayala Vermosa Sports Hub, a venue recognized for its world-class infrastructure designed to support athletic training and recreational activities.

With its blend of fitness, environmental stewardship, and community engagement, the Vermosa Green Run aims to continue inspiring participants to adopt healthier lifestyles while contributing to meaningful conservation efforts.
