Rain or Shine turned the PBA’s 51st anniversary celebration into a statement victory, defeating San Miguel Beer 116-112 at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Wednesday night. The win extended their unbeaten start in the Commissioner’s Cup and reinforced their early-season form against elite competition.

The Elasto Painters established control early in the game, pushing pace and executing efficiently on both ends of the floor. Their offensive rhythm and defensive pressure allowed them to build a significant cushion before halftime.

Rain or Shine surged ahead by as many as 25 points during the middle stretches of the contest. Their ball movement and transition play consistently created high-quality scoring opportunities.

San Miguel Beer responded in the fourth quarter with a strong rally that turned the game into a tight finish. The Beermen increased defensive intensity and capitalized on key possessions to cut into the lead.

Despite the pressure, Rain or Shine maintained composure and answered every San Miguel run with timely baskets. Their execution in critical moments allowed them to preserve the lead down the stretch.

Nocum fourth-quarter surge

Adrian Nocum delivered a decisive scoring stretch in the fourth quarter, finishing with 21 points after scoring 10 in the payoff period. His shot-making helped stabilize Rain or Shine during San Miguel Beer’s comeback push.

Nocum’s aggression provided the team with crucial offensive answers when momentum shifted. His ability to score in key possessions helped prevent San Miguel from fully taking control.

Rain or Shine also relied on defensive rebounds and structured half-court sets to slow the Beermen’s run. Their discipline in late possessions proved vital in closing the game.

Balanced attack statement win

Jaylen Johnson led Rain or Shine with 24 points, five rebounds, and three assists while anchoring the team’s balanced offensive approach. His presence inside and outside created mismatches throughout the game.

Jhonard Clarito, Felix Lemetti, and Caelan Tiongson all contributed double-digit scoring outputs to support the effort. Their production ensured consistent scoring across all four quarters.

The depth of the roster allowed Rain or Shine to sustain its pace even under San Miguel Beer’s late pressure. The collective effort proved decisive in securing the win.
