The contest evolved into a test of endurance and resolve, with both teams trading momentum across five sets before everything boiled down to a tense and extended deciding frame.
Soyud delivers in defining moment
With the fifth set stretched beyond the usual limits, the match transformed into a battle of composure where every mistake carried massive consequences.
Akari repeatedly found itself within reach of victory, only to be denied by Choco Mucho’s resilience. The Flying Titans answered every opening, even seizing a late opportunity to steal the match behind key plays from Tia Andaya and Kat Tolentino.
But the Chargers refused to unravel. Ivy Lacsina sparked the push to stay alive, while Eli Soyud rose in the biggest moments, first reclaiming match point with a crucial block before delivering the decisive blow.
With the score locked deep in the extended rally phase, Soyud stepped to the line and fired a sharp, well-placed serve that cut through Choco Mucho’s defense, ending the marathon and sealing the win.
Lacsina leads balanced Akari attack
Lacsina powered Akari with a conference-best 30 points, anchoring the offense while also contributing heavily on defense with double-digit digs and receptions. Her performance set the tone for a team effort that held firm under pressure.
Soyud added 18 points, including the match-clinching ace, while Fifi Sharma and Grethcel Soltones chipped in 13 and 11, respectively. Ced Domingo and Mars Alba also played key roles, with Alba orchestrating the attack and maintaining stability throughout the match.
Choco Mucho, coming off a previous five-set win, fought relentlessly but ultimately ran out of answers in the closing stretch. Eya Laure led with 20 points, while Kat Tolentino added 19. Sisi Rondina was held to 13, unable to fully impose her usual scoring rhythm.
The victory sets up a high-stakes showdown for Akari, which now faces powerhouse Creamline in a do-or-die clash for a Final Four berth.
