Rain or Shine finally got its revenge, and it was ruthless. The Elasto Painters blasted Barangay Ginebra, 110-99, Sunday, July 26, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

It was their second straight win, evening their Group B slate at 2-2 in the PBA 50th Season Governors’ Cup.

Fuller, Tiongson Turn the Tables on Ginebra

Rain or Shine surged to an 18-point lead before turning the tables on the very team that eliminated it in six games during the last conference’s Commissioner’s Cup semifinals.

Fuller was a beast, exploding for 37 points and 12 rebounds, while Tiongson shot the lights out with a conference-high 21 points on a scorching 5-of-9 clip from beyond the arc.

Tiongson, who was named Best Player of the Game, fueled a decisive 36-27 tear in the third quarter with three triples as Rain or Shine seized control after falling behind early, 17-21. He also went 3-of-4 inside the arc.

“We started the conference at 0-2 and we started this game just focused on winning,” Tiongson said. “We have a good import who attracted defense and he opened up the spaces for us.”

Guiao Credits Defense, Rebounding in Statement Win

Coach Yeng Guiao praised his locals for solving Ginebra’s defensive scheme on Fuller.

“Mahirap ipasok ang entry pass kay Aaron Fuller as all teams denied him that. But we did a good job to make the pass work,” Guiao said.

Guiao also pointed to the schedule as a factor in Rain or Shine’s favor.

“Natyempuhan namin na Ginebra was tired coming from their Friday game. Ang ganda ng shooting nila Friday, at umaasa ako the law of averages caught up with them, at bumaba ang shooting percentage nila,” he said.

“Overall masaya ako sa depensa namin, sa rebounding namin at sa assists as we got 29,” he added. (“Overall, I’m happy with our defense, our rebounding, and our assists as we got 29.”)

Ginebra, fresh off a 115-85 demolition of Blackwater last Friday, dropped to 1-2 in the group, paced by Phoenix at 3-1. Adrian Nocum and Jhonard Clarito each chipped in 13 points for the Gin Kings in the loss.
