The NLEX Road Warriors leaned on a late surge from Robert Bolick to pull off an 84-81 victory over the Blackwater Bossing in the Philippine Basketball Association Commissioner’s Cup at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium on Friday, March 13.
The Road Warriors struggled early and trailed by double digits in the first half before gradually finding their rhythm. Their persistence paid off late as Bolick ignited the offense in the fourth quarter and delivered the decisive basket in the closing seconds.

Blackwater had the chance to force overtime after trimming the deficit to three points and regaining possession with just seconds remaining. However, Christian David missed a wide-open three-point attempt just before the buzzer, allowing NLEX to escape with the narrow win.
Bolick leads fourth-quarter takeover
Bolick erupted for 13 of his 24 points in the fourth quarter while also contributing seven assists and four steals. His clutch three-pointer with 37.8 seconds remaining gave NLEX an 84-79 lead and shifted the momentum permanently to the Road Warriors.
The veteran guard timed his offensive burst perfectly as NLEX searched for a steady scoring option in the closing minutes. His leadership proved crucial as the Road Warriors weathered the Bossing’s late rally.
Import Cady Lalanne provided strong interior support by finishing with 22 points and 16 rebounds. Two of his baskets came off assists from Bolick during the decisive stretch that helped NLEX regain control of the game.
Coach Jong Uichico acknowledged that the team is still adjusting after several roster changes following the previous conference. He said the win was important for building chemistry and confidence early in the tournament.
Blackwater fades after strong start
Blackwater appeared poised for a convincing victory after building a 33-17 advantage in the second quarter. The Bossing controlled the pace early and capitalized on NLEX’s offensive struggles during the opening minutes.
The Road Warriors gradually closed the gap behind improved defensive pressure and timely shooting. A booming four-pointer from Bolick sparked a decisive 12-0 run that erased a 75-69 deficit and swung the momentum in NLEX’s favor.
Sedrick Barefield led the Bossing with 18 points off the bench while Daniel Ochefu recorded 16 points and 16 rebounds. David added 12 points for Blackwater, which extended its losing streak to 11 games dating back to the previous conference.
