Defending champions Criss Cross aim for a third consecutive win in the 2026 Spikers’ Turf Open Conference as they prepare to face AEP-Cabstars on Sunday, Mar. 1,  at the FilOil Playtime Centre. The King Crunchers have impressed in their first two matches, defeating both the VNS Always Bright Laticrete Griffins and the Alpha Insurance Protectors in straight sets.

Early in the tournament, Alche Gupiteo has emerged as a reliable scorer and defensive asset, complementing a squad built around four-time MVP Jude Garcia. Noel Kampton, Kim Malabunga, Lloyd Josafat, John Pepito, and Adrian Villados provide additional depth and consistency, forming a team that blends balance, experience, and offensive rhythm.

Cabstars look to disrupt the King Crunchers

The AEP-Cabstars aim to shake off an opening-day setback against the Protectors with a confident showing. Their straight-set win over the Griffins last Friday boosted morale and signaled that the young team can challenge Criss Cross. Jay Rack De La Noche leads the offensive charge, supported by experienced teammates Vince Lorenzo, EJ Casana, Nas Gwaza, and Vince Abrot, creating a core with cohesion and ambition.

Coach Kitty Antiporta emphasized the importance of their last win as a momentum builder. “Magandang bawi kasi pangit ‘yung game namin nung first game, so nakapag-adjust kami doon sa dapat namin ayusin ngayong match,” she said. “Maglalaro lang kami nang maayos doon, bibigyan namin sila ng magandang laban.”

Other matches set the tone

Later in the day, Savouge will face Alpha Insurance at 5 p.m., following the 3 p.m. encounter between winless 3B and VNS. Savouge (1-0) hopes to capitalize on an opening victory with players Mark Calado, Louie Ramirez, and Shawie Caritativo. Meanwhile, the Protectors (1-1) rely on Jau Umandal, JM Ronquillo, and Edward Camposano to recover from a shutout loss to the King Crunchers.
