Conor Gallagher is set to leave Atletico Madrid after the Spanish club granted him permission to travel to London for a medical ahead of a potential transfer to Tottenham. The 25-year-old English midfielder was left out of Atletico’s squad for Tuesday, Jan. 13, Copa del Rey match at Deportivo La Coruna, signaling the likely end of his time in Spain.
Gallagher joined Atletico from Chelsea in the summer of 2024 for over 40 million euros. During his time in Madrid, he made 77 first-team appearances but struggled to become a first-choice player under coach Diego Simeone, featuring in less than 40 percent of the team’s total minutes this season.

Gallagher’s move and Tottenham’s plans
Tottenham is reportedly willing to pay a fee that allows Atletico to almost recoup their initial outlay, following a long-term injury to midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur. Gallagher is keen to secure more playing time and rebuild his standing in the England squad after being overlooked in recent matches under national team coach Thomas Tuchel.
A return to England had been discussed last summer, but Gallagher had previously stated his desire to succeed at Atletico. His move to Tottenham would provide both increased playing opportunities and a chance to re-establish himself as a key player for England.
Striker Gianluca Raspadori is also reportedly set to leave Atletico Madrid during the current transfer window. The Italian international is expected to join either Roma or Napoli after failing to secure a regular starting role under Simeone.
