Filipino Wushu team captures three golds in stellar Asian Youth Games performance

SAKHIR, Bahrain — The Philippines’ muay performers fueled the country’s medal surge at the Asian Youth Games, striking for three gold and two silver medals in an outstanding Sunday, October 26, performance at the Grand Hall of the Exhibition World Bahrain.

Zeth Gabriel Bueno and Lyle Anie Ngina showcased poise and precision in their individual wai kru routines, while Jan Brix Ramiscal and Tyron Jamborillo powered to victory in the team mai muay final to secure the nation’s third gold medal of the day. The results lifted the Philippines’ gold tally to five overall.

Bueno dominated the boys’ 14–15 wai kru final with an impressive score of 9.17. Thailand’s Daonuea Phuangmali settled for silver with 9.0, while Malaysia’s Jaethan Jonathan Quan took bronze with 8.53.

Ngina matched the feat in the girls’ 14–15 wai kru division, earning gold with 9.0 points. Malaysia’s Auryelle Xzandra Bobby scored 8.8 for silver, and Thailand’s Kittima Yotsombat finished with 8.6 for bronze.

Ramiscal and Jamborillo seal team mai muay gold

Ramiscal and Jamborillo combined for a masterful 9.20 performance to clinch the team mai muay title. The United Arab Emirates’ Yousef Rakan and Aziz Alhammadi earned silver with 8.30, while Malaysia’s Bethany Yun Yunn Lai and Jaethan Jonathan Quan posted 8.27 for bronze.

Ramiscal nearly made it a double gold, but he narrowly lost the boys’ 16–17 wai kru final to Thailand’s Pimpichien Chaiwan via countback after both scored 9.23. A single judge’s higher mark of 92 in favor of Chaiwan decided the gold. Iraq’s Sajjad Hamzah Ali Rabeeh took bronze with 8.47.

In the girls’ 16–17 final, Jasmine Dagame captured silver with 8.93 points, finishing behind Thailand’s Rungthipwa Koakaw, who scored 9.17 for gold. Malaysia’s Ariesya Dania Binti Abdul Latip placed third with 8.63.

The strong showing by the muay team underscored the Philippines’ growing presence in martial arts on the continental stage, adding valuable medals to the nation’s campaign in Bahrain.
