Multi-titled Creamline may have missed another Finals appearance in the Premier Volleyball League’s professional era, but the Cool Smashers still wrapped up their campaign on a strong note.
Backed by a roaring crowd at the SM Mall of Asia Arena, Creamline vented its frustrations on Cignal and secured the bronze medal with a decisive 25-17, 29-27, 25-17 victory in the PVL On Tour. The Cool Smashers took control with two commanding set wins, but it was their gritty comeback in the second frame that highlighted the championship pedigree and resilience that have long defined the franchise.

Creamline turns the tide in crucial second set
Facing four set points at 20-24 after a service error, Creamline rallied behind Michele Gumabao, Alyssa Valdez, and Rhea Villarete, who came off the bench to deliver a clutch ace. The Cool Smashers erased the deficit, survived a back-and-forth exchange, and sealed the emotional 29-27 win after Gumabao closed it out with a block and a spike. The rally left Cignal stunned and shifted the momentum firmly in Creamline’s favor.
Though the HD Spikers battled hard in the third set, Creamline broke away late with a decisive closing run. Gumabao finished with 21 points to claim Best Player of the Game honors, while Jema Galanza and Valdez added 13 and 12 markers, respectively.
Consistency and composure carry the Cool Smashers
Creamline outperformed Cignal in attacks (47-43), blocks (11-7), and service aces (6-0), while limiting their errors. Galanza and libero Kyla Atienza anchored the defense with solid digs and receptions, while Valdez contributed on both ends.
Gumabao reflected on the team’s consistency since she joined in 2018, stressing that podium finishes remain a testament to their preparation and unity. Coach Sherwin Meneses also praised his squad’s fighting spirit, vowing to regroup for the upcoming Invitational.
For Cignal, Heather Guino-o led with 13 points, while Erika Santos added 12. Despite their efforts, the HD Spikers struggled to overcome Creamline’s tight defense.
The bronze medal may not have been the ultimate prize, but for Creamline, it served as another reminder of their pride, resilience, and staying power as one of the PVL’s most consistent contenders.
