The 2025 World Games is set to officially begin Thursday, August 7, at the Tianfu International Convention Centre, where countries will converge in a celebration of cultural pride and Chinese modernity.
Leading the Philippine delegation in the opening ceremony are Wushu standout Agatha Wong and cable wakeboard athlete Raph Trinidad, who will carry the national colors during the parade of nations. The event promises a vibrant showcase of heritage and innovation in an urban setting, with the Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) represented by its President, Abraham “Bambol” Tolentino.

Ceremony to feature unique setting and performance style
Scheduled for 8 p.m., the opening ceremony will be staged not in a stadium, but on the wooden eaves of a grand gallery next to Qinhuang Lake, creating an open-air ambiance against a picturesque natural backdrop.
Filipino athletes based in Chengdu are encouraged to attend the festivities, depending on arrival schedules or training obligations. Chef de Mission Stephen Arapoc is also expected to march with the delegation.
“This is my first time joining an opening ceremony. I’m just excited to enjoy and take in the experience,” said Wong.
The evening’s highlights include a three-part torch-lighting sequence—starting from a motorboat relay to skiers igniting the flame—along with a Sichuan-style cultural performance and a fireworks display.
Philippine Sports Commission Chairman Patrick Gregorio is among the expected guests, joining Chinese officials and World Games leaders including President Jose Perurena Lopez.
