The Philippine Dragon Boat Federation (PDBF) is back to represent the country in the 2025 Sun Life Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Races. This iconic event is co-organized by the Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB) and is part of its Cultural Beat campaign to spotlight the city’s rich cultural traditions.
Running from May 31 to June 8, the festival will turn the Tsim Sha Tsui East Promenade into a day-to-night celebration. Highlights include the Dragon Boat Food Lane, themed photo zones featuring Ocean Park Hong Kong’s Panda Friends, and an immersive carnival experience.

A Global Arena on Victoria Harbour
The dragon boat competition on June 7 and 8 will feature over 190 teams and 4,500 athletes, surpassing last year’s attendance. Teams from 12 countries and regions—among them Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, UAE, Canada, Egypt, and Qatar—will battle in 19 races on the iconic Victoria Harbour.
PDBF enters the fray with renewed resolve after finishing as second runner-up in the Women’s Grand Championship last year. With international rivals in peak form, the Philippines is targeting an even better result.
PDBF Aims to Paddle to Glory
“Our team has faced tough competitors, but we’re determined to rise higher this year,” said Marcia Cristobal of the Philippine Dragon Boat Federation. She emphasized that the squad is coming off a grueling campaign in Macau and is now laser-focused on victory.
Cristobal praised the strength and resolve of the women’s squad, noting, “This team has grit beyond measure. We’re here to represent the Philippines and we won’t waste this chance.”
Cultural Carnival Meets Sports Spectacle
HKTB Executive Director Dane Cheng confirmed that this year’s races have been reimagined as a full-scale dragon boat carnival. “We’ve taken innovation to new heights,” Cheng said, calling the fusion of east-meets-west heritage and sport a unique tourist experience.
The Urban Council Centenary Garden will host the race weekend expansion on June 7-8. Live race broadcasts, acrobatic flash mobs from Cirque du Soleil, and a Beer Garden by San Miguel Brewery Hong Kong will boost the energy along the harborfront.
More Than Just Racing in Hong Kong
Over 20 nearby establishments are offering food and shopping discounts during the festivities. Hotels are also giving up to 30% off on dining deals, making the event accessible and exciting for both tourists and residents.
To help attendees plan their visit, the HKTB has launched a dedicated webpage with schedules and citywide cultural events. Finals and awards will be broadcast live via RTHK TV 32 on-air and online, ensuring fans can witness every thrilling moment.
